She's still smiling at the end of the day! See her ears!

Kayla had a follow up visit today with her doctor. The infected ear looked fine, but the other ear looked like it had fluid on it. We are going to try some more medicine so that it doesn't flare up over the holidays. They went ahead and did her 6month well check up as well. Her length is 26 1/4 inches, weight is 16lb 2.5 oz., and her head is still small!--16 1/2in. Her doctor says she is right on track since she's rolling over--all around the room, sitting up on her own, transfering her toys from hand to hand, rambling, and reaching for everything. She is growing up so fast. I'm so lucky to have been home with her these past two weeks.

Yeah, I received the Mom Award today! Kayla got her 6 month shots (3) at the doctors office, then I got her ears pierced today. How mean! What a difference pierced ears make. She is so much cuter. I should have taken her a long time ago, but I was lazy. Yes, she cried, but just for a minute. I was in Clair's so I was able to pick up some hot pink, fuzzy thing for her to play with to calm her down.

Hello everyone, it's been a while! It is just so hard to find time to post. I usually have to wait for Matt and Kayla to go to bed. If I try to post during the day, I have Kayla on my lap and she's reaching for the keyboard and I'm deleting more than I type. She is at that age where she has to touch and grab everything she sees! Drives me crazy! She is also rolling over every which way---rolling across the room. She has not quite figured the crawling thing out just yet, but she sure tries. She gets her legs up and does a little rocking but no go. She will scoot across the room on her back though. Tonight she scooted from the middle of the floor to the rug by the front door. It was too funny. She's not going to have any hair on the back of her head next week if she keeps that up. She is now weighing 5lbs 12oz as of last Tuesday. She also got her first ear ache (ear infection)! Yes it's and ear infection and I kept calling it an ear ache. She is wearing 6mos and 6/9mos clothes and size 2 shoes. She has her Daddy's feet! She is also sitting up by herself, but if she looks or reaches behind herself, she falls over. She will soon have a flat nose.

Kayla's rounding 5 months! She's getting so big so fast. At her four month check up she weighed 15.3lbs-75% and was 25-1/2 ins. long-80%. It looks like she will be tall like her daddy--I sure hope so. We've started feeding her baby cereal so eatting time is just a little messy. She likes to grab my hand, when I bring the spoon up, and make me cram it in her mouth. It's so funny!

I finally got Kayla's pictures that we had taken for Halloween. They are sooo cute. I need to go next week to have more copies made and I will get them out as soon as I can. Here are some of the pics.

This is my favorite picture! At first I thought the Halloween pics were my fav. but the more I see this one, I just love it. Maybe it's because I got an 11x13 and it looks really good--really big.

Holding her feet was lots of fun. I think it makes her look like such a happy baby--like she is! These two pics are sightly different. It was so hard to choose one pose.

This one is great too. Just look at those dimples. She's got Matt written all over that pretty little face of hers. I can't wait until Christmas pictures!

Kayla is growing way too fast! I'm not sure what she is weighing these days but I'm sure it's close to 15 pounds. If you've seen her recently you could see she does not miss a meal! She is now wearing 6 mos. clothes, and they're all so cute. I have more fun playing dress up now than when she was in 3mos. Mark, she fits into the camo outfit you bought her! I've taken some recent pictures of her in it. I knew she would grow into it right before hunting season. "Lets go huntin dad!" All she needs is a gun.

Yesterday I cut Kayla's little side ponytail. It was so long, it was getting in her eyes. She is also starting to roll over. Today was the first time she rolled all the way over, and I was behind her cheering her on. Most of the time she gets 3/4 the way over and gets stuck. That darn shoulder! I have so much fun watching her; she's growing up so fast. She also still likes standing and she gets excited if she can hold on to your fingers rather than your hands on her waist. She'll even get to stomping that right foot--thats her practicing to walk.

I think she's starting to teeth, all the drool and constant chewing on everything is definately a clue. She always has her fist in her mouth and every now and then she will find her thumb. That's a big No No!

Two weekends ago Pat and I took her for her first pictures. They were Halloween pictures and were so much fun. She did really well. She started fussing at the end, but it was because it was time for her to eat. And not to mention we changed her 3 to 4 times. I will send the pictures on the 20th and try to mail them out as soon as possible.

Here is Kayla during her Tummy Time!!

If you haven't seen Kayla lately, she is getting very big. Of course she changes every day. One of her favorite things to do right now is look in the bathroom mirror at herself. She will go from screaming at the top of her lungs to smiling with a sweet little sound. It's kind of funny! She is also spending a lot of time on the playmat and in her walker. I know we are not supposed to put her in her walker right now because she is too small but she likes it for a few minutes a day. It's funny we have everything in the livingroom and we just rotate her every ten minutes or when she starts crying. I always try to put her on her tummy for some Tummy Time! and she gets really mad really quick. If I don't do that she'll never crawl!

Cameron and Savannah came over Sunday. They try to carry Kayla around and they struggle because she is so heavy. They hold and carry my cousins baby, Mattea, who is not quite as heavy. Savannah thinks she is a little mommy. She tosses the babies around, it scares me. Shelby came over Wednesday night and was pushing Kayla around the kitchen in her walker. I can't wait until Kayla is older that way I don't have to worry about what the bigger kids are doing to her. I think she'll survive them though.

Labor Day Weekend

We got to spend labor day weekend with Lorne, Kelly, and Sawyer. Kayla did very good the car ride there and on the way home. Matt got to spend a day playing golf with Lorne and I got to spend a day with Pat and Kelly at the mall. Sawyer did not mind too much that his parents was holding another baby. He just went about his business and did what he always does. He did like Kayla's bumbo though. It was so funny, Saturday morning he noticed the bumbo--something new and he had to try it out. Even when Kayla was sitting in it, Sawyer would try to sit on her lap. Kelly even pulled out some of his old toys (bouncer and playmat) and Sawyer had to try them out again. He looked so big in the bouncer--looked like a giant compared to Kayla. I bought Kayla and Sawyer some sunglasses to wear for some pictures. Sawyer wanted to wear the pink ones and the guys said he looked like Elton John. We also got to celebrate Matt's birthday Monday night. It was nice, Lorne grilled some hamburgers for us and Kelly cooked Matt his favorite cake--and sent the leftovers home with us, knowing we're on diets!! And we ate it!! This is Matthew and Kayla watching television. I was calling Kayla's name from the side and she would not turn her head, so I had to get in front of the tv to take this picture. She always focuses on the tv, especially if it is music videos. Soon she'll be asking what's that daddy? Why did they do that daddy? Why? How come? Did he really shoot that deer daddy? Why? Where's his momma at? Can't wait for all the questions! Questions after Questions!!!!!

Kayla is starting to coo a lot now. She makes all kinds of noises, especially when she laughs. And she constantly has her hands all over her face and in her mouth!! She is getting more fun each day.

Bumbo

Miss Kayla already helps momma around the house. Tuesday our friend Tricia gave us this Bumbo seat. It is really awesome. You can take it anywhere. Kayla loves it because she thinks she has to sit up ALL the time. If she is not sitting up, she is standing up.

Growing Baby!

Kayla had her two month check up on Tuesday. She weighs 11 lbs 14.5 ozs. and is 23 in. long. She has gained 2 lbs and grew two ins. since last month. She is in the 90th percentile with her wieght and just over 75th percentile with her length. Her head is still small--thankfully--and is barely in the 25th percentile at 15 ins. My poor baby had to get four shots. She did good--only cried for a minute and slept all night. The sleep was nice. Kayla really likes her mobile which is attached to her crib. I wish I could find one that is battery operated so that I don't have to keep winding it up. She just lays there smiling at it. I'm not sure if it is the music or the flying butterflies. If anyone sees or knows of one please let me know.

San Antonio

Kayla went on her first trip this weekend. We went to San Antonio to see Uncle B and Aunt D! That's Brandon and Deanna if you didn't know. The weekend was fun. It was so nice to get away. It's about a three hour drive and Kayla slept the entire way there and back. Brandon and Deanna were so good with Kayla, I can't wait to see them with their own! They were actually fighting over Kayla. Matt played golf with Brandon on Saturday and the women just lounged around. That is all I wanted to do all weekend. I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep since I started back at work. Kayla and I slept until 11:00 both mornings, it was GREAT! Here's a couple action photos of the weekend!

A Day Out

Saturday Matt and I went fishing with Mark and Jennifer. We had fun even though we did not catch any fish. (Matt did catch a sand trout.) It was nice just to be out of the house. Briana babysat Kayla for us. She said Kayla was good. Matt and I were both baby-sick by lunch time. When we got back from fishing we went to my cousins house to see my Aunt Pam who is down from Canada visiting. It was nice to see her again. Kayla also got to see some more of her Great Grandparents. My mother's stepfater and my dad's mother. They were both very excited to see her. Yes, Kayla sleeps very well, it is hard to wake her!

CCR

Saturday night I left Kayla with her father to go see Cross Canadian Ragweed in New Braunfels with my friend Jennifer Arlitt. It was so much fun, and no I did not have a beer. Stoney Larue opened for CCR but he hung around and joined CCR on stage most of the night. It was awesome. We did get rained on a little but we didn't care! Here's a couple of photos for all you CCR fans.

One Month

Today was Kayla's one month doctor's appointment. She has gained two whole pounds since her last appointment. She now weighs 9lbs 14oz and she is 21.5 in long. She is getting really big. I don't have to wake her up in the middle of the night to eat, just during the day! Now I get a little more rest. Here Kayla is having lots fun!

I only have two more weeks at home with Kayla. I am not ready to go back to work yet. I am going to miss Kayla so much. I hope she does good for the Nanny. I hope we didn't spoil her too much.

Kayla has changed so much already. Matt went back to work on Monday and everyday he comes home he says she looks a little different. She is gaining weight or filling out. She has chubbier cheeks, arms, and fingers.

2 Week Dr.'s Visit

Kayla had her two week follow up today. They had to do another screening, pricking her little foot. Poor baby--she screams loud! She was not a happy camper after that. She is growing though. She grew almost an inch since last week and she now weighs 7lbs 14ozs. At her one week she was 19-3/4 in and 7lbs 5.5oz. Thank goodness she is gaining weight, now we can sleep a little longer. I don't have to wake her every 1-1/2 to 2 hours, we can feed every 2-3 hours. There was a little clicking in her hip so Dr. Morgan will look at it a little closer at her one month appointment. If it remains the same or is worse we will do an ultrasound of that area to see what is going on. Hopefully everything is okay! Oh yeah and her cord finally fell off today. Almost time for a real bath.

At home!

We are finally settled in. Kayla is doing great. She only wakes up about two times during the night. She only cries when she has gas or needs a diaper change. We are so blessed! Matt is such a great Daddy. He really did good in the delivery room. He thought he would pass out but he didn't; he actually watched the entire birth. And he even cut the cord!! I am so glad he was by side the whole time I don't know what I would have done without him. That night in the hospital we had Kayla in our room and Matt had the honors of changing the first DIRTY diaper. I even recorded it. He looks like a natural. I think he took some classes somewhere to learn how to do that. Matt is spoiling Kayla already. He wants to hold her ALL day long, sleeping or not. I try to make him lay her down but it's impossible.

The day we brought Kayla home Matt and Uncle Mark planted her tree in the front yard. It's so cute.

Matt and I finally got a chance to take some pictures together. He was warned by Jody Hanzik that having to take family photos is not fun. So all morning Matt is whinning, "I dont want to spend all day taking pictures all I want is two pictures, one of us together and one of you by yourself holding your belly." Once we got there he admitted it was fun. We took pictures at Pam's house (Eric's girlfriend) and at the river in Wharton. Here are a couple of our favorites.

Baby Kayla

Today I had my doctor's appointment and I am still one centimeter dilated. If I don't have the baby this weekend my doctor will induce labor Monday morning. He said I will probably have her Tuesday evening sometime.
It's hard to believe that it's only one week away. Just think this time next week Matt and I will fighting over who GETS to hold her and who HAS to change her! For everyone asking we are SO ready and no I'm not nervous or scared. Not yet anyway!!
I've already said we are going to share the duties--I will nurse and he can change the diaper. Don't you think that's fair?

This weekend is Sawyer's and Savannah's birthday. How exciting! It'll be the first one for Sawyer. Can't wait to see how he does with the cake and the presents. Savannah will be turning five and she informed me her party will be at Chucky Cheese's. She wants me to buy her a huge swimming pool. You know the ones that cost like $300.00 at Wal-mart. She says you have to get that one so that the dogs and cats can't tear it. She's so sweet, she even showed me one I could buy for my baby.

BB Guns

Cameron and Savannah came to spend the night with us on Memorial day and we had a good time shooting the bb guns and also teaching Savannah how to shoot. She is a natural just like her big brother and picked it up in no time as you can tell from the photos. We all had a great time and it was good to see the kids again. I stayed home and went to the doctor with Jackie and Savannah come along to hear the heart beat of the baby. Jackie and the baby are both doing as well as can be and we are still just sitting back waiting for the big day to get here.

Getting Prepared!

Wow Kelly is great! She's on top of everything. (I know that doesn't sound good!) She gives me lots of good advice. Last week she sent me this long list of things I may want to take to the hospital and things that I shouldn't worry about taking because the hospital will provide them. That was really helpful. This week she sent a book Prepared Childbirth which talks about pregnancy, giving birth, exercises, breastfeeding, and life with a baby. It has lots of breathing techniques which helps since Matt and I didnt take any lamaze classes. Thanks for all your help Kelly!

Mother's Day

We had a great Mother's Day. Mom came over and Matt made some beef & chicken kabobs and bacon wrapped jalepeno chicken. It was so good.
Matt and I enjoyed our Mother's Day dinner at Tortucas on Thursday. We didn't want to fight the crowd so we went a little early. Matt took me shopping after dinner for a purse and wallet which he picked out by himself. I was afraid it was too small at first but it's perfect.

Baby Hackworth

Today we had another doctor's appointment. Everything went well. Another ultrasound was done to determine the weight of the baby. Ultrasound appointments are so much fun to go to. Well as of now Kayla weighs about five pounds and she is definitely a girl. This last week I started second guessing the ultrasound technician. She told us at the second appointment it was a girl and we haven't had another ultrasound for like four months. I was worried we would have an angry little boy dressed in pink. Expected delivery date still remains June 15th. Oh how I wish it would be just a little sooner so that I could sleep in comfort! I'm tired of rolling from side to side. I just want to sleep on my stomach or back. One of the great things with being pregnant is having your spouse cook dinner. Matt has been cooking and cleaning the kitchen. All I have to do is take something out of the freezer and let him know what I want (and sometimes tell him how to cook it!!)

I want to wish Cameron (my nephew) and Stephen Engelhardt (my cousin) a Happy Birthday. Sorry I am a little late. Their birthday was April 30th, not the same year of corse. I think Cameron really enjoyed his gift. He actually got tired of shooting, only because it takes muscles to cock the gun. Matt decided to get two guns so that whoever shoots with Cameron doesn't have to share. That was a good idea, but I'm beginning to wonder if the extra gun was for whoever or for HIMSELF!
